Excessive heat.

Control
A) If using a
spa
side control, disconnect it and attempt to run the unit with
thermostat on the
control box, if so equipped. If this works correctly, replace the spa
side control.
B) Turn thermostat fully
counter-clockwise (CCW) to see if heat disengages. If not, disconnect either connection to thermostat. If heat shuts down, replace thermostat. If heat still does not disengage, disconnect coil connections from heater
contactor. If this causes heat to disengage,
this indicates there is an internal wiring issue. If not replace contactor (stuck contacts).
C) If heat disengages with
thermostat fully CCW, but unit continues to overheat if turned CW, check
thermostat bulb for proper placement in thermowell. If location of bulb is correct check, capillary and bulb for crimps, kinks or breaks. Replace as necessary. If temp is uncontrollable, capillary is not damaged and flow past bulb location is correct, replace thermostat (unit calibration or sensing ability has failed).
